Skippy lives! Kangaroos are taking over Sydney next week

Watch out Sydney, the kangaroos are coming. But they aren’t just any kangaroos.

Designed by award-winning sculptor Louis Pratt, 22 eye-catching roos have been created from Colorbond steel in order to celebrate the brand’s 50th birthday. These are the out-of-place animals that you will soon see taking over the CBD.

With the largest work standing at 160cm high, the works are true to life in size, meaning that the joey sculptures are incredibly cute.

It took Pratt a total of six weeks to create the clan, which weigh a whopping 700 kilograms together, and they will be exhibited (along with some real life furry friends) next week.

“This was a fun job,” said Pratt. “Drawing, designing and producing the mob by hand took some work, but I enlisted the services of some great fellow artists to lend me a hand. I’m thrilled with the result and the location for the pop-up exhibition is terrific – grass, water, views. I think they’ll be very happy here!”

If you’d like to check the exhibition out, head down to Hickson Road Reserve between the 25th of October and the 27th of October. Oh, and entry is free.
