Police public service announcement ads are almost always a wince-inducing cringe-fest, so instead of trying to buck that trend, the Northern Territory police communications department has decided to jump straight into it.
In a rare display of self-awareness, they’ve parodied themselves in this anti-drug ad for the upcoming Bass In The Grass festival that’s kicking off in Darwin.
The video, which has racked up over 90,000 views at the time of writing is replete with all the 1980s video trimmings – VHS filters, awful graphics, cheesy transitions and word art.
The police have to get their message out to young Australians somehow, and given we’re living in the Meme Dynasty, the best way to do that is through ironic throwback viral parody videos.
