Spiritualized playing at Supersense is the “life-changing” event you’ve been waiting for

If you go to one music festival in Australia, you’ve basically been to them all. Girls in denim shorts and flower crowns, guys in wife-beaters or onesies, and you can pretty much guarantee that at least two of Flume, Violent Soho or DMA’s will be playing.

There’s nothing wrong with that, per se, they’re mostly good fun, and except for the brutal hangover on Monday morning, we all leave with some great memories.

But Supersense is changing the game, and is truly one of a kind.

For three magical days (18-20 August, 2017), Arts Centre Melbourne will be transformed into an artistic wonderland – with its underground walkways, nooks and crannies becoming a labyrinth of entrancing experimental performances.

It’s a sensory feast designed to challenge, inspire and fascinate you – quite unlike anything else you will ever see at an Aussie festival.

The program has been curated by Melbourne and New York-based interdisciplinary performer Sophia Brous, and even though there are more incredible acts than you can poke a stick at, there’s one in particular that we refuse to miss.

Spiritualized (UK):

The experimental space rock genius Jason Pierce will bring his iconic, genre-bending act, Spiritualized, to Supersense for a world premiere performance.

From rock epics, to dirty blues, to punk to gospel, Spiritualized is a transcendent, often brutal exploration of music and the human condition. To watch this genre-bending group in full flight is nothing short of an astounding experience.

The enigmatic Pierce promises to be as mysterious and captivating performer as ever. And while Spiritualized’s first album dropped some 25 years ago, the ever-changing line-up proved that they’ve still got the capacity to amaze.

The band wowed audiences late last year performing their seminal album, ‘Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space’, to universally adoring reviews so we can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for Supersense.

Spiritualized will close the festival with what’s sure to be a peerless performance. They’ll be joined on stage by the Australian Art Orchestra and Consort of Melbourne choir as they take their trademark sound to new, undiscovered spaces.

Other featured acts you’ll want to see include The Ecstatic Music of Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda (USA): a powerful tribute to one of the most venerated musicians of the 20th entury. Alice Coltrane was an unstoppable musical and spiritual tour de force whose legacy will surely stand the test of time.

And Pussy Riot Theatre – Riot Days (RUS). We all know the story of Pussy Riot – the feminist punk collective who were controversially jailed in Putin’s Russia. But no-one in Australia has seen the story told like this – on the stage by one of its members, Maria Alyokhina.

Since 2015, Supersense has been much more than a festival. It will challenge and transform how you see the world, and is an unmissable event for lovers of contemporary and experimental music.

The Supersense festival is taking place at Arts Centre Melbourne from 18-20 August, 2017. Tickets are on sale now. Get your hands on them over here and find out all the information you could possibly need at their website.
